HOUSE 2015

'Relict Material', 15 minutes,, 16:9, projected onto concrete cube wall

~

Relict Material is a film installation co-commissioned by HOUSE 2015 and Photoworks and shown in the Servant’s Hall, The Regency Town House Basement, Brighton in May 2015.  The installation includes a free-standing wall made from 144 concrete test cubes.

The film focuses on the marine aggregate industry and its use in concrete manufacture. Approximately 25 million tonnes of marine aggregates are dredged offshore in the UK each year, yet this industry largely goes unseen. Many of these aggregates end up in the concrete foundations of our homes, offices and roads.

Filmed on location at Shoreham Port and building sites along the Sussex coast. With thanks to Lafarge Tarmac and Midgard.
